Old Summer Palace
The ruins of the 'Garden of Gardens', a witness to history's glory and sorrow
About This Place
The Old Summer Palace is a vast imperial garden complex built over 150 years during the Qing Dynasty, once hailed as the 'Garden of Gardens'. Looted and burned by Anglo-French forces in 1860, it now stands as a poignant historical park where crumbling stone pillars and foundations whisper tales of past splendor and national trauma. Famous for its expansive water features, the vast Fuhai Lake is particularly stunning during the summer Lotus Festival. Allow at least 3 hours for your visit and pick up a map at the entrance, as the grounds are extensive and easy to get lost in.
