Chaotianmen Square
Where two rivers meet, the zero-kilometer mark and dazzling night views
About This Place
Chaotianmen Square is one of Chongqing's most significant historical landmarks, situated at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers. Once one of the city's seventeen ancient gates, it now serves as a major water transport hub, the largest passenger ferry terminal, and the official 'Zero Kilometer' starting point of Chongqing's road system. As dusk falls, the square and riverfront light up, offering a spectacular vantage point to experience the city's famous multi-layered nightscape.

Best Time to Visit
April-May, September-October
The ideal time to visit is from late afternoon into the evening, perfect for catching the sunset and the spectacular light show after dark. Clear weather provides the best view of the river confluence. Evenings can be windy and cool by the water, so bringing a light jacket is recommended.
Ticket Information
Entry to the square is free and requires no booking. Tickets for the Two-Rivers cruises can be purchased at the terminal ticket offices, through travel agencies, or via online platforms. Cruise prices vary widely (from tens to over a hundred RMB) depending on the vessel, route, and inclusions, so it's wise to compare options beforehand. Occasional construction may affect access around the terminal, so checking the latest traffic updates is advised.
