Yadan National Geological Park, also known as the 'Devil's City,' is a spectacular yardang landform on the edge of the Lop Nur. Sculpted by wind erosion over hundreds of thousands of years, it features mysterious castle-like mounds, 'fleets,' and sculptures. Compasses often malfunction here due to magnetic interference, and howling winds at night add to its eerie atmosphere. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather. Aim to arrive 1-2 hours before sunset for the best photographic light. Summers are extremely hot—sun protection is essential. Winters are cold but less crowded.

Avoid Chinese Holidays

Strongly avoid Golden Week (Oct 1-7), Chinese New Year (late Jan/Feb), and Labor Day (May 1-5). Crowds are extreme and tickets often sell out weeks in advance.

Tickets must be purchased on-site. The entry fee is 95 RMB and includes a mandatory 70 RMB shuttle bus ticket (walking or self-driving into the core area is not allowed). You can book a 'Dunhuang West Line Day Tour' package (prices start from 78 RMB) on platforms like Mafengwo, which includes transport. For deeper exploration, you can rent an off-road vehicle inside the park (approx. 400-500 RMB per vehicle, seats 3). Check opening hours in advance and bring plenty of water and sun protection.
