Shantang Street Scenic Area
Stroll a millennial-old street, savor water town nights & Suzhou's slow life
About This Place
Shantang Street is Suzhou's most iconic historical and cultural district, originally built over 1,100 years ago under the direction of the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi. It perfectly preserves the classic Jiangnan water town layout with stone bridges, flowing canals, and white-walled houses, earning it the title 'the epitome of old Suzhou.' We recommend visiting in the late afternoon to experience both its daytime charm and the enchanting atmosphere as the lanterns light up at dusk.
